Travis Hunter suited up for the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. But he dropped by a local church to get baptized first.
Videos surfaced online on Sunday morning showing the Jags rookie sitting as a minister placed a hand on his head before lowering him into the water. He displayed his trademark wide smile after getting back up.
“Couldn’t find my keys this morning and was late for church, only to come upon Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Hunter getting baptized!” a church member said, per a tweet from Collin Rugg.
“He asked to come get baptized before today’s game. Thank you Jesus for touching this young man’s life!”
Hunter has previously spoken about his faith but hadn’t publicly discussed the depth of his spirituality.
He got married ahead of his first season in the NFL, and has now taken another significant step with Sunday’s move.
Hunter, who shocked everyone with a flat haircut before his NFL debut last month, had another surprise for fans today.
Unfortunately, the reborn receiver/DB isn’t having that great a game, having made three catches for 16 yards at the time of writing, with his team down 20-6 in the third quarter. He was also the cause of a touchdown getting wiped out after lining up offside.
