NEW YORK — August 25, 2024 — A video capturing a police arrest that escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in an officer kicking a woman, is sparking outrage and raising serious questions about the appropriate use of force by law enforcement.

The incident, which began as an attempted arrest of one woman, took a dramatic turn when a second woman, identified as a friend of the first, intervened.

According to footage of the event, three officers—one female and two male—were attempting to detain a woman. During the process, the officers forced the woman to kneel on the ground to be handcuffed. At this point, a friend of the woman, who was also reportedly being detained, rushed toward the scene and pushed the female officer in an attempt to disrupt the arrest.
